Dog Treats

When it comes to teaching your dog tricks like sit, stay, etc. always remember to have a pocket full of treats to reward him/her when they follow your commands. But it is very important for your dog to like the treats or else this whole exercise will be futile. Bland, crummy, dried out treats aren't really going to satisfy your dog or keep it interested in the exercise. On the other hand, a nice and juicy dog treat will definitely do the trick. So choose your treats carefully.

Nowadays, dog treats are considered a part of regular grocery items and can even be found on shelves in specialty stores, food stores, etc. Whether it is expensive treats like beef cuts or discounted products, there are quite a few different varieties of dog treats for you to choose from.

Dog treats are meant to be chewy and hard. The main reason for this is because they're supposed to help clean your dog’s teeth. There are even certain dog treats which help improve digestion in a dog and improve its internal health. There are a lot of treats available in the market today for various things like heartworm prevention, pain killers, antibiotics, etc.

And if these commercial treats aren't your thing then perhaps you could consider making your own special dog treats at home. These could be anything from thin pieces of steak to small pieces of cooked hamburger to cheese and balls of rice. You can choose to make the treats vegetarian or meat-based as well. There are certain homemade recipes that include things like couscous, wheat germ and molasses too. Keep in mind though that it is very important for you to consult a veterinarian before deciding to give your dog any type of homemade treat. Remember, chocolate is not good for dogs and chicken bones may get stuck in their throat. You should stay away from both these things as far as treats or any other meals for your pet is concerned.

There is an exciting world of homemade dog treats out there. All you have to do is take out some time in order to explore it properly. Your dog will definitely be grateful for the additional effort in preparing its treats. And even if you aren't ready to do everything on your own, you can always get delicious packaged dog treats in the market. At the end of the day, as long as the treat is tasty, there is nothing else you should be concerned with.
